ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

Design is a long process which involves thinking, conceptualizing, sketching, thinking, making, remaking, rethinking, drawing, critiquing, simplifying, presenting, organizing, talking, collaborating, building.  The best building is that which stands on its own; which is better than the concept; better than the rendering.  If not, as designers, we must strive again tomorrow.

PAINTINGS

I like to work in the abstract form.  Distilling images to their basic forms.  Finding inspiration in literature for new series.

DRAWING

Finding something interesting in the city to put to paper takes time, and lots of walking.  Even when you find that which you wish to draw, it's necessary to see it from different angles; to walk around it; to find the view or the detail; to find the place to sit.

Otherwise, you sit... and wait for stream of consciousness to arrive... and let your hand do the thinking.

STUDENT WORK

My philosophy is that a student should be a well rounded individual.  In a drafting class, they should be learning about technology.  In an engineering class, they should be learning about society.  In a social sciences class, they should be learning about sustainability.  In an environmental class they should be learning about art.  In an art class, they should be learning about everything.
